Jani Delivers Swiss Sweep

A1GP World Cup

SEPANG, Malaysia — Pole sitter Neel Jani gave A1 Team Switzerland its second victory of the day to complete the weekend sweep in Sunday’s A1GP World Cup of Motorsport event at Sepang International Circuit in Sepang, Malaysia.
Jani led 15 of the 35 laps, regaining the top spot with four laps to go and pulling away for an 8.4 second victory over Team Brazil’s Sergio Jimenez.
Following his victory in the earlier 10-lap sprint race, Jani lined up in the pole position ahead of France’s Loic Duval and Great Britain’s Oliver Jarvis as the race got underway, with Jani pulling out to a 2.5-second advantage by the end of lap one.
An incident on lap seven brought all but two cars in the field to the pits for the first round of stops, with Jimenez beating the field off of pit road to take the lead.
With Jimenez up front, Switzerland, Great Britain and France went side by side in a battle for second with Jani taking the position and setting his sights on Jimenez.
As the second pit stop window opened on lap 22, Jimenez and Team Brazil elected to stay out as Jani pitted from the second position. Jimenez pitted one lap later, but Jani made up enough ground on the track to overtake Jimenez as he left pit road, and Jani took the top spot.
The finish:
Neel Jani, Loic Duval, Sergio Jimenez, Jeroen Bleekmolen, Congfu Cheng, Narain Karthikeyan, Adam Carroll, Jonny Reid, Ian Dyk, Jonathan Summerton, Michel Jourdain, Oliver Jarvis, Alex Yoong, Adam Kahn, Erik Janis, Satrio Hermanto, Chris Alajajian, Enrico Toccacelo, Adian Zaugg, Robert Wickens, Joao Urbano, Michal Ammermuller.
