Hafertepe, Rahmer Top N. Florida

Friday

LAKE CITY, Fla. — Sam Hafertepe, Jr. took the lead just before the halfway point in the season-opening 25-lap feature for the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions Friday night at North Florida Speedway.
He led the rest of the distance for his first victory with the traveling 410 winged sprint-car series.
Dale Blaney jumped from third starting spot to take the early lead. While Blaney set the pace, Hafertepe worked his way to the front from sixth starting spot.
Hafertepe passed Blaney for the lead only to see the yellow flag when Kaley Gharst stopped on the track.
“I was really hoping we got that lap complete, but I knew once we got back to lapped traffic that we may be able to do something with him,” said Hafertepe. “I hate to show somebody my nose and have the caution come out like that. We got the lapped traffic and it worked in our favor.”
Blaney pulled away on the restart, but when the leaders caught traffic, Hafertepe made his move, taking the point on lap 12.
“The track was really racy for the feature,” said Hafertepe. “Our car was really hooked up good in the feature. He (Blaney) made a little mistake and we didn’t.”
Blaney finished second, ahead of Randy Hannagan, Lance Dewease and polesitter Brian Paulus.
