Davis Out-Does Shuman & Sherman For Manzanita Triumph

PHOENIX — Charles Davis, Jr. made a late move to capture his first Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region victory of the year in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature atop Manzanita Speedway’s third-mile clay oval.
Starting from the front row outside, Davis outgunned pole-sitter Mike Bonneau for the early lead.  But Casey Shuman was on the march from eighth starting position, soon taking the lead as he vied for his second win in as many tries atop Manzy’s short track.
Davis was not to be denied though, battling back around Shuman in the closing stages to take the victory.
Point leader Jeremy Sherman passed Shuman as well to take runner-up honors after starting 12th, with Shuman crossing the stripe third.  Nathan High was fourth, with Andrew Reinbold fifth.
