Johnson Limps To Fifth Victory In Gulf Region

ASCS Gulf South

CLEVELAND, Texas — Jason Johnson racked up his third American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region triumph in four tries by racing to victory Saturday night at 105 Speedway.
Johnson took the lead when early leader Channin Tankersley crashed, and nursed home the Marvin Pearson-owned No. 11 mount on seven cylinders.
The 17-year-old Tankersley’s bid for a first series win came to an end when he climbed the right rear tire of a lapped car and flipped out of contention. Tankersley was uninjured although his car was destroyed.
Johnson took over on the restart and fought off Ray Allen Kulhanek to capture his fifth overall ASCS victory of the year. Watson, Travis Elliott and defending series champion Brandon Berryman filled the top five.
The finish:
Jason Johnson, Ray Allen Kulhanek, Gary Watson, Travis Elliott, Brandon Berryman, Scottie McDonald, Michael McNeil, Greg Rilat, Tommy Bryant, Chris Sweeney, Brandon Corn, Terry Monroe, Travis Knighton, Jack Spencer, Tim Simmons, Bruce Crockett, Jimmy Brooks, Channin Tankersley, David Noker, Kent Lewis, Jr.
