OKLAHOMA CITY — Nick Smith snared his first victory of the year by wiring the field in Friday night’s 25-lap American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region event at State Fair Speedway.
After drawing the pole, Smith fought off several bids from defending series champion Brian McClelland and survived a late caution to snare his ninth-career ASCS Sooner Region victory aboard Kip Smith’s Wesmar-powered Sooner Network Solutions/Smith Trucking No. 15s J&J.
Smith sailed to the checkered flag unabated, while Travis Rilat settled for runner-up honors.  Garry Lee Maier made a late move to take third, with McClelland crossing the stripe fourth. Andy Shouse rounded out the top five.

LAWTON, Okla. — Former American Sprint Car Series National champion Travis Rilat tried to take it away.
But Gary Taylor was not to be denied, as he reached victory lane in Saturday night’s 25-lap American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region feature at Lawton Speedway.
The Washington-state native survived a lap-23 charge from Rilat and took the checkered flag in front of Garry Lee Maier to snare his first-career ASCS Sooner Region triumph.
As Rilat and Taylor raced side by side off of turn four, Rilat bumped the wall and spun, giving Taylor clear sailing.
Eric Baldaccini finished third, with Jack Dover and Danny Jennings rounding out the top five.
