Barger, Barney Get Seconds
Can-Am Motorsports Park & Utica-Rome Speedway
Saturday
LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. — A couple of well-placed cautions and a brand-new race car helped propel Justin Barger to his second victory of the season in the 25-lap feature for the Lucas Oil 25th Anniversary Tour for the Empire Super Sprints at Can-Am Motorsports Park Saturday night.
A lap-22 caution brought Barger close enough to Jeff Cook to give Barger a shot at the victory. The two battled back and forth for nearly two laps before Barger took the lead for good by diving to the bottom for his 12th series victory.
“I’m not sure if I could have got him (Jeff Cook) without that last caution,” stated Barger after pocketing $2,000 for the win. “My other car got tweaked a little bit and it wasn’t reacting to the changes we were making, so we put together a new Maxim this week, and it worked really well.”
Cook settled for second, while Doug Emery, Jason Barney and Steve Poirier rounded out the top five.
The finish:
Justin Barger, Jeff Cook, Doug Emery, Jason Barney, Steve Poirier, Alain Bergeron, Rick Wilson, Tommy Wickham, Russ Bennett, Tim Kelly, Michael Parent, Brian McDonald, Tim Devendorf, Anthony Cain, Bubby Kerrick, Chuck Hebing, Lee Ladouceur, Robbie Shuttleworth, Jeff VanDusen, Gordy Button, Lance Yonge, Chris Jones, Normand Beaudreault.

VERNON, N.Y. — Jason Barney attributed his dominant performance Sunday night at Utica-Rome Speedway to hard work.
Barney’s win was his second Lucas Oil 25th Anniversary Empire Super Sprint tour victory of the season, with his first coming Memorial Day weekend, also at Utica-Rome.
“We struggled so much here the last few years, I can’t believe how well we’ve done this year,” stated Barney. “It’s all the hard work my crew put in to get this car ready tonight. We made small changes all night and the car was great in the feature.”
By the halfway point, Barney built his lead to a full straightaway over Lance Yonge, who settled for the runner-up spot. Chuck Hebing was third ahead of Cory Sparks in fourth and Steve Poirier in fifth.
