Wickham Wins First, VanDusen Dominant

Saturday

BROCKVILLE, Ontario — Going into the Lucas Oil Canadian Invasion Series event Saturday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway, Tommy Wickham had never won an Empire Super Sprint (ESS) race. That all changed after he held off some of the top sprint-car drivers from the U.S. and Canada over 25 laps on the fast quarter-mile oval.
Wickham passed Lance Yonge for the lead, taking charge just before a caution and then fended off challenges from Alain Bergeron and Jeff VanDusen.
VanDusen settled for second, while Steve Poirier, Kyle Wilson and Chris Jones rounded out the top five, respectively.
The finish:
Tommy Wickham, Jeff VanDusen, Steve Poirier, Kyle Wilson, Chris Jones, Alain Bergeron, Lance Yonge, Rick Wilson, Bubby Kerrick, Lee Ladouceur, Mike Stelter, Jeff Cook, Michael Parent, April Wilson, Rich Van Keuren, Cory Sparks, Brian McDonald, Russ Bennett, Lori Cook.

Sunday

CORNWALL, Ontario — Jeff VanDusen dominated Sunday night’s Empire Super Sprints feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
The race, which was rained out on July 15, saw Van Dusen out in front from start to finish.
“I missed the dash so I watched the race to see where the cars were running and then I walked the track a bit after,” VanDusen said. “Most thought it was just going to be a one-lane, on-the-bottom track. But, they watered the top and I noticed with the dew in the air, the moisture was starting to come back through.”
Jeff Cook finished second, ahead of Lance Yonge, Steve Poirier and Bubby Kerrick.
The finish:
Jeff VanDusen, Jeff Cook, Lance Yonge, Steve Poirier, Bubby Kerrick, Alain Bergeron, Mike Stelter, Chris Jones, Michael Parent, Kayle Robidoux, Brian McDonald, Russ Bennett, Anthony Cain, Tommy Wickham, Rich Van Keuren, Lori Cook.
