QUINCY, Calif. —Golden State Challenge Series point-leader Jonathan Allard utilized a beautiful late-race move in traffic to pass Tim Kaeding and pick up his first victory of the season Saturday night at American Valley Speedway.
With the win, Allard becomes the ninth different winner in the first 10 races of the GSC season and it came on a night when the final checkered flag fell just before midnight because of a rain delay.
T. Kaeding jumped to an early lead, but when lapped traffic became a factor, Allard closed the gap.
The two raced side by side several times, but Allard got the opening he needed and cut his No. 0 into the lead on lap 21. He raced unheaded the remaining distance to post his 18th-career GSC triumph.
“Man we needed this win big time and I just can’t thank my guys enough for all their hard work this weekend,” Allard said. “I have to thank Morrie and Katie Williams and everyone who works on and supports this team.”
T. Kaeding’s runner-up finish marked his second-straight podium in GSC competition.
Brent Kaeding was third, ahead of Evan Suggs and Bud Kaeding.
