WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Jason Meyers continued his torrid pace at the start of the season by winning the third round of the Golden State Challenge Series Friday night at Ocean Speedway.
After winning last weekends Mini Gold Cup, Meyers came back this week and led all 30 laps en route to victory.
Race teams were greeted to the Ocean Speedway by gusty winds, but thankfully no rain, which had been a worry for much of the week. When the sun went down however, temps quickly dropped and became very cold at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds track. Starting from the pole, Meyers shot to the lead aboard his GLR Investments, KPC No. 14, but a multi-car accident in the first turn brought the red flag.
Meyers controlled the restart and set the pace through 16 consecutive green-flag laps, with Shane Stewart, Tim Kaeding and Tyler Walker giving chase.
Two more yellow flags slowed the pace, but Meyers was up to the challenge to grab his second-straight GSC triumph and his fourth-overall victory this season.
Stewart was second in Dennis Roth’s No. 83, while Tim Kaeding, Jonathan Allard and 10th-starter Bud Kaeding rounded out the top five.
The finish:
Jason Meyers, Shane Stewart, Tim Kaeding, Jonathan Allard, Bud Kaeding, Shane Golobic, Brent Kaeding, Evan Suggs, Taylor Malsam, Jerry Bonnema, Travis Rutz, Tyler Walker, Jason Botsford, Chad Noland, Mike Henry, Ken Fredenburg, Tommy Tarlton, Jason Statler, Jon Maiwald, Justin Sanders, Ricky Wright, Jr., Brent Bjork.
