From 12th To 1st For Balog
BEAVER DAM, Wis. — Billy Balog’s decision to compete for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series championship is looking like a good one.
The former series rookie of the year won for the first time this season Saturday night at Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway, retaking the series point lead in the process.
Balog’s Maxim chassis performed flawlessly on the big half-mile track, moving from his 12th-place starting spot to the lead and holding off local favorite Scotty Neitzel on consecutive green-white-checkers restarts for the victory.
Early leader Steve Meyer fell victim to a spin, while Donny Goeden and Mike Kertscher were forced out of the race due to mechanical problems.
Jerry Richert, Jr. finished third ahead of Scott Uttech in fourth and Brian Kristan in fifth.
The finish:
Billy Balog, Scotty Neitzel, Jerry Richert, Jr, Scott Uttech, Brian Kristan, Kurt Davis, Todd King, Bill Warren, Billy Hafemann, John Haeni, Tim Vandervere, Scott Biertzer, Joe Symoens, Andy Hunt, Mike Reinke, Steve Meyer, Dave Uttech, Kik Mock, Mike Kertscher, Rusty Egan, Donny Goeden, Rusel Borland, Ryan Irwin.
