BEAVER DAM, Wis. — Donny Goeden fired the first shot in Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Ass’n sprint-car competition, winning Saturday night’s season opener at Charter Raceway Park.
Last year’s winningest driver in the series, Goeden picked up where he left off, starting on the front row driving Bob Walldan’s No. 11 to victory.
John Haeni led early, but gave up the lead to Goeden. However, the man on the move was Todd King, who romped from the fifth row to grab the lead from Goeden. However, King ran out of fuel on a lap-19 restart and Goeden regained the point.
He held off Steve Meyer for the victory despite a three-lap dash to the checkered flag set up by a late yellow flag.
Scotty Neitzel, Tim Vandervere and Bill Wirth filled the top five.
The finish:
Donny Goeden, Steve Meyer, Scotty Neitzel, Tim Vandervere, Bill Wirth, Brian Kristan, Billy Balog, Kurt Davis, Jason Johnson, T.J. Leutke, Bill Warren, Kim Mock, Dave Uttech, Andy Hunt, Rusel Borland, John Haeni, Scott Young, Mike Reinke, Mike Kertscher, Todd King, Billy Hafemann, Tommy Sexton.
