Droud Drives To The Front
Low groove leads to victory.
HAYS, Kan. — Don Droud, Jr. found the rubber in the low groove late in the race Saturday at RPM Speedway and roared from behind to take the checkers in the O’Reilly NCRA Sprint Car Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol.
Droud took the lead from two-time defending series champion Garry Lee Maier with two laps to go after following Andy Shouse to the front in the low groove.
Shouse then ran into lapped traffic, which allowed Droud to head him. Droud stayed low and slipped by Maier for his second win of the season. Maier finished second, followed by Derek Drown, Mike Peters and Shouse.
The finish:
Don Droud Jr., Garry Lee Maier, Derek Drown, Mike Peters, Andy Shouse, C.J. Johnson, Gavin Punch, Marc Robe, J.D. Johnson, Luke Cranston, Mike Chadd, Jon Freeman, Cody Forshee, Roger Sundquist, Mike Woodruff, Stu Snyder, A.J. Selenke, Mark Schmidt, Chris Morgan.
