LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Robert Ballou continued his strong late-season run at Lawrenceburg Speedway Saturday night, winning the $10,000 50-lap MSCS sprint-car finale. Kyle Cummins used a provisional to seal the 2007 MSCS point championship.
An extensive re-work of the track just before heat races provided an ultra-fast surface for the entire night, making passing very challenging among the star-studded 71-car field. Ballou started on the outside of row one in the feature race, and trailed polesitter Brady Bacon until forging past on lap 20.
From that point, Ballou held off the furious advances of Kevin Swindell, with several timely cautions keeping the leaders out of traffic. At the finish Swindell made one final try on the outside of Ballou, but fell just a yard short at the stripe.
“This is the eighth in a row for us, so I have to say hats off to our whole team,” said Ballou in victory lane. “Our engine was blowing up on those last few laps, but I hope we put on a good show for the fans!”
Dave Darland was third, trailed by Casey Shuman and A.J. Anderson.
A big scare came during heat-race action when Danny Williams, Jr. flipped wildly off the fourth turn, splitting an opening in the fence and spilling into a spectator area located at the end of the grandstand. Williams climbed from the car unhurt, and no other injuries were reported.
The finish:
