KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Terry McCarl dominated the 10-lap A Scramble that headlined Saturday afternoon’s program at the Knoxville Nationals.
The last chance for drivers qualified for the top 10 spots in the A, B and C mains to improve their starting positions for Saturday night’s program, the Scrambles were run in 90-degree temperatures because of rain Wednesday night that altered the week’s schedule.
McCarl, who earned the 10th most points during the two nights of qualifying, started on the pole and checked out on the field from the start, romping to an easy $7,000 triumph on the half-mile oval.
“We were seventh after our qualifying night, so we were just lucky to get into this thing today,” he said.
Brooke Tatnell won a wheel-to-wheel tussle with Steve Kinser to take second. Kinser was third.
Shane Stewart and Tim Kaeding waged a thrilling side-by-side battle for the lead, with Stewart taking the lead on the penultimate circuit to take the $5,000 top prize in the B Scramble. Kaeding earned $4,000 for finishing second.
Lance Dewease led all eight laps from the pole and banked $3,000 for winning the C Scramble.
