SCRA Skips 2008 Slate, Eyes 2009
HANFORD, Calif. — The Sprint Car Racing Ass’n’s life as a sprint-car sanctioning body may have reached its end. Officially, SCRA officials are taking the 2008 season off, with hopes of returning in 2009, but that still seems in doubt.
SCRA, which began sanctioning non-winged 410 sprint cars as a replacement to the California Racing Ass’n, made the switch to non-winged 360 sprint cars in 2005. The idea was to develop young drivers for other levels of sprint-car racing.
Kings Speedway served as the series’ home track in 2007, but decided not to have the series back in 2008. Officials could only arrange a handful of firm dates and elected to cancel the 2008 season and put all energy into a full schedule of events for the 2009 campaign.
