Good Day: Hebing Repeats on Oct. 7

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. — Two years in a row, the seventh day of October has proved to be fruitful for Chuck Hebing, as he completed a successful 2007 season with his 14th victory of the year.
The 2007 ASCS Patriot Sprint champion led all 25 laps for the second straight year Sunday to pick up the $3,000 top prize, in an event that had the A and B Features held over from a rain-soaked Saturday program.
With 67 sprint cars initially checking into the pits, there were plenty of contenders that could factor in the feature, but in the end it was a familiar cast of characters that were up front with “The Cobra.”
Sophomore sprint competitors Jason Barney and Steve Poirier each had their cracks at Hebing over the closing stages but came up just shy of the fellow former modified regular.
“This is always such a tough show, so we knew we had to work hard for this one,” said Hebing. “I knew (Barney) was going to run the bottom so I just had to hope I could get back around him.”
Barney finished second, ahead of Blake Breen, Curt Michael and Tim Kelly.
The finish:
