MARNE, Mich. — Brian Campbell survived a lap-40 accident and rallied to capture the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division second-annual Tradition 200 Saturday at Berlin Raceway.
Campbell, from nearby Wyoming, Mich., suffered cosmetic damage on the right side of his car after being caught in an accident between race leader Sean Murphy and Kyle Sirizzotti. But the Boyne Machine Racing Team was able to repair the damage and keep Campbell on the lead lap, feats that would lead to Campbell’s improbable charge to victory lane.
By the halfway break, Campbell was in seventh place. After the break, Campbell picked his way through the rest of the field, eventually reaching leader Robbie Pyle. After battling for several laps and through a lap-189 restart, Campbell wrestled the lead away on lap 192 and held on from there.
Peter Cozzolino finished second, and Travis Dassow was third after avoiding a last-lap accident between Pyle and Murphy. Pyle recovered to finish fourth and Chris Anthony was fifth. Murphy fell to 16th.
The finish:
Brian Campbell, Peter Cozzolino, Travis Dassow, Robbie Pyle, Chris Anthony, Jacob Goede, Kris Stump, Alec Carll, Jordan Dahlke, Blake Brown, Chris Koslek, Terry VanHaitsma, Eddie Hoffman, Darren Robertson, John Wes Townley, Sean Murphy, Jordan Sims, Greg Usher, Jimmy Lang, Kyle Sirizzotti, Fred Campbell, Jimmy Weller.
