LEXINGTON, Mich. — Beau Slocum won Sunday’s ASA Late Model Southern Division finale at Birmingham Int’l Raceway to post his fourth victory of the season.
But Slocum came up short in his bid for the 2007 championship as Jeff Choquette took home the title.
Slocum led the final 22 laps to win his second race in a row over teammate Jon Wes Townley. He ended up 29 points behind Choquette, who finished fourth in the event to win the championship, as well as rookie honors, becoming the fourth driver in series history to win both titles in the same year.
Slocum started fourth in the 125-lap event and trailed polesitter Michael Pickens and Choquette for the first 96 laps before sliding past to take the second position, bringing Townley along with him in third. After applying heavy pressure on Pickens, Slocum finally made his move on lap 103 as Townley again followed him through.
Townley threw every trick he had at his teammate in the final laps, but Slocum prevailed to take the checkered flag.
Pickens held on for third over Choquette, while Brandon Johnson — the third driver in the title hunt — finished fifth.
