Slocumb Eats Up Watermelon
ASA Southeast Tour
CORDELE, Ga. — Beau Slocumb won the second event for the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour late-model series Sunday afternoon at Watermelon Capital Speedway.
Slocumb jumped from fourth starting spot around fast-qualifier Jay Middleton and dominated the event, holding off Middleton for the victory.
“It’s awesome,” said Slocumb. “I’ve got a huge family and a huge group from my church, and they are all here tonight. That makes it even more special to do it in front of them.
“This is as good as it gets. We got a lot of criticism last year, people saying we were winning a bunch of races around here because of the Zaxby’s money and support that we got from them last year. Tonight, this was our car out of a beat-up trailer and a shop in a garage at home. That’s why this means a lot.”
Behind Middleton at the checkered flag were Michael Pope, Jess Mattox and Taylor Satterfield, who made up the top five.
The finish:
Beau Slocumb, Jay Middleton, Michael Pope, Jess Mattox, Taylor Satterfield, Scotty Ellis, Stephen McCurley, Paul Kelley, Jeremy Mullinax, Kyle Fowler, Preston Peltier, Chris Cable, J.R. Garcia, Josh Adkins, Gene Kirila, Jason Hogan, John Bolen, Tyler Millwood, Michael Seeright, Steve Renner, Chris Fontaine, Brandon Johnson, Trey Mitchell, Jeremy Rice, David Jones, Sean Bass, David Elliott, Alex Fleming.
