KOKOMO, Ind. — Jon Stanbrough won for the third time in five Indiana Sprint Week events Sunday night at Kokomo Speedway, dashing Dave Darland’s dreams of winning the race named for his father on the final lap.
Darland led the first 29 laps of the Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Car Series event on the quarter-mile oval, hoping to win the Bob Darland Memorial, but Stanbrough continued his dominance of the Indiana dirt-track scene with a final-lap pass for the lead.
Stanbrough charged from 12th on the grid and pushed his Foxco No. 53 ahead of Darland on the final circuit.
Cole Whitt slid under Darland for second at the checkered flag, as the disconsolate Darland settled for third, ahead of Darren Hagen and Dustin Morgan.
Stanbrough leads the Sprint Week standings, while Levi Jones used the five races in as many nights to claim the lead in the season-long USAC standings.
