GAS CITY, Ind. — Jon Stanbrough returned from a couple of tough racing nights to earn his second victory of Indiana Sprint Week and fourth of the season with the USAC National Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway.
Levi Jones was bridesmaid for the second-straight night, as fast-qualifier Dustin Morgan took third.
“It’s all good,” Stanbrough said. “We got a little bit loose there at the end. Everybody else probably did, too, but it was still really fast. Again, I can’t say enough about Brad, Steve and Tim and everybody. They work so hard, and that shows out there.”
Driving a Chevrolet Maxim for Tony Stewart Racing, Jones led from the pole, with Brady Bacon, Stanbrough, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Morgan on his tail. Stanbrough worked past Bacon on the third circuit, and when Bacon fought back, he slid into the wall.
Jones, Stanbrough and Stenhouse scrapped for the lead when racing resumed.  Stanbrough worked inside Jones for the lead through turn two on the sixth lap and began to open some distance.
Two red flags stopped the race with a handful of laps remaining. Shane Cottle took a tumble while racing with Neil Shepherd. Two laps later, Kevin Swindell flipped.  Stanbrough took the checkered flag eight car lengths ahead of Jones, as Morgan, Stenhouse and Jesse Hockett followed.
Afterwards, Jones complimented the Fox team, saying, “We were as good or better than him through three and four. But on the other hand, where there’s no cushion, they’re just digging. We’ve got really good motors, but Galen Fox and Brad and Steve have done the non-wing deal a long time, and it seems that their motor never slips the tires. It’s a really good combination there, and Jon is a hell of a driver, and they’ve got the best car you can put on the track.”
