KANSAS CITY, Kan. — J.J. Yeley hopped out of his Busch car and into his K&N USAC Silver Crown machine Saturday at Kansas Speedway and led all 67 laps of the Kansas Lottery 100 for his third victory this season.
In doing so, he gave his A.J. Foyt entry a series-record 265 consecutive laps led over the past four pavement races.
Yeley started eighth but used the top of the 1.5-mile superspeedway to slingshot to the lead on the opening lap, and he was about a second and a half ahead of pole winner Wayne Reutimann, Jr. when the checkered flag waved 42 minutes later. Yeley averaged 141.238 miles per hour for the 100.5-mile distance.
“The car was totally tight in qualifying so we put it back on the scales and found a few things wrong,” Yeley said. “We got it better, obviously. After running the Busch race, I hoped everybody went low in turn one on the start and I went to the top and got the lead off turn two. George (Snider) and the crew do such a good job with this car that it makes it fun to drive.
“I had to win today so I could run at Phoenix in November.”
Cameron Dodson finished third, ahead of Jerry Coons, Jr. and point-leader Bud Kaeding, whose lead stands at 57 points over Reutimann going into the No. 8 Phoenix finale.
