USAC Adds Substance Policy
SPEEDWAY, Ind. — USAC has introduced a substance abuse policy beginning with the 2008 season.
The new policy, which subjects drivers to testing upon suspicion, went into effect this past weekend at Manzanita Speedway.
“We want to assure our participants and fans the safest environment possible while creating a set of industry standards targeted at maintaining the sport’s integrity,” said USAC President and CEO Kevin Miller. “We recognize the extreme importance of this move and expect our members to adhere to these policies as we extend USAC’s leadership role.
“USAC’s integrity is its trademark and we intend to preserve that as we unveil these new policies as the latest steps in creating the New USAC image,” continued Miller.
According to the policy, which is posted on www.usacracing.com, it applies to all drivers, mechanics and crew members, as well as USAC officials.
The policy maintains that “USAC may require a competitor or official to submit to a test or tests, including without limitation, urine, blood, saliva, hair, breath tests and/or any other scientifically acceptable method of testing when USAC has reasonable suspicion that the competitor or official has violated any part of this policy…”
