Saturday
PERRIS, Calif. — Cory Kruseman completed a sweep of the opening weekend of action for the USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series and he did it in dramatic fashion.
Kruseman started his No. 21k Viper sprint car 12th on the half-mile dirt track and steadily worked his way to the front until taking the lead from Mike Spencer on the 29th tour. He led only the final two laps en route to his second victory in as many nights.
Spencer, who was the fast qualifier, finished second for the second-consecutive night. David Cardey had led the first 12 laps of the race before Spencer took control on lap 13.
“The bottom was really pretty slow,” Kruseman said. “I tried a few slide-jobs that were in the middle of the race track and I couldn’t seem to get the car to stay where I needed it to stay. We were way too tight until we had that red (flag) for Sheridan, which allowed us to come in and make some changes to the car that really helped.”
Cardey finished second, with defending series champion Tony Jones and Garrett Hansen rounding out the top five.
