Ave’s Road Work
by Dan Jack
LIME ROCK, Conn. — Tony Ave made it three in a row in the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am event at Lime Rock on Saturday.
The 59-lap event around the 1.53-mile “classic” Lime Rock circuit saw polesitter Ave try to bury the small field early, but the Jaguar of Tomy Drissi stayed close to Ave’s Corvette for a while. Eventually Ave realized a smoother approach worked better, and slowly moved away from the field to a 21-second victory over Drissi, with Simon Gregg third.
The field of only five is likely the smallest field in the glorious history of the Trans-Am series.
