DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Roush Performance collected its first victory at Daytona Int’l Speedway Friday afternoon as the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge kicked off its season.

Roush Mustang co-drivers Billy Johnson and Jack Roush, Jr. held off a trio of Fall-Line Motorsports BMWS in a three-lap dash to the finish on the 3.56-mile road course.

With Johnson at the wheel for the final stint, the Roush No. 61 crossed the finish line 1.061 seconds ahead of the BMW handled by Charles Espenlaub, who co-drove with Charles Putnam.

Third went to the BMW of Bryan Sellers and Mark Boden.

“I love this track,” said Roush Jr., whose car the past two season-opening events at Daytona has failed to finish the race. “There is a lot of history. It’s a very special race to win. I can’t be happier.”

Defending ST champion Kinetic Motorsports and drivers Andy Lally and Nic Jonsson maintained the lead with three laps remaining in ST, but i-Moto driver Pierre Kleinubing was able to get by the No. 10 Kia and hold off a last-lap charge from Jonsson to give i-Moto its second consecutive class victory by a margin of only 0.021 seconds.

Co-driver Jayson Clunie moved the No. 31 Mazda Speed 3 through the field from the 38th starting position in the opening stint.

Gregory Liefooghe and David Levine finished third in ST for BimmerWorld Racing.

Johnson led the final 18 laps in a race that was plagued by six caution flags for 25 of the 58 laps completed.
