11 Races For Trans-Am In 2013
MIAMI – The Trans-Am Series has released its’ new expanded 2013 schedule. In total, the series will attend 11 venues next season, an increase of three over last year’s eight-venue, ten-race format.
The series also announced collaboration with three other racing series over the course of the year, partnering with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), NASCAR, Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) and the SCCA.
The Trans Am Series will return to a vast majority of last year’s venues, remaining at historic Trans Am sites such as Road America, Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, all while making a return to driver and fan favorites like Daytona Int’l Speedway and Sebring Int’l Raceway. One more location will be announced later this year.
The season opener will take place at Sebring Int’l Raceway in accompaniment with SVRA on March 3, and the 2013 series will conclude with the finale at Daytona Int’l Speedway on Nov. 17.
John Clagett, president of the Trans-Am Race Company, sees the schedule expansion as a vital part of the series’ growth.
“We are extremely happy with the way the schedule turned out. Our goal has always been to race at tracks that drivers and fans can be excited about and I believe that this schedule represents that,” said Clagett. “We have a great mix of historic Trans-Am racetracks where there have been so many Trans-Am memories in addition to some newer locations for Trans-Am where new legends and memories can be made.”
Clagett was particularly excited about the three-race partnership with SVRA.
“The new partnership with SVRA gives the Trans Am Series the opportunity to showcase historic Trans Am racing, curiosity of SVRA, with the new breed of Trans Am at classic race tracks in event filled weekends,” said Clagett. “When we started the Trans Am Race Company one of the goals of our business plan was to embrace our history and heritage by incorporating Vintage Trans Am with what Trans Am is doing and this accomplishes that. There’s so much history in Trans Am and so much momentum going forward, it is going to be a really great to combine the two in an unparalleled experience in 2013.”
The Trans-Am Series will partner with SVRA at Sebring, Watkins Glen and Virginia Int’l as well as NASCAR at Road America and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and HSR at Daytona.
