Audi Nabs Pole For 24 Hours Of Le Mans

LE MANS, France – Audi’s No. 2 R18 e-tron quattro will start from the overall pole for the 90th running of the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans that starts on Saturday.

Loic Duval put Audi on the pole with a lap of 3:22.349, which he set during Wednesday’s qualifying session. It held as the quickest of the three interrupted sessions combined, despite a number of late overtake attempts by others in the LMP1 class late Thursday.

Duval will share the seat of the No. 2 with eight-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen and two-time victor Allan McNish.

Andre Lotterer qualified second in the No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro entry with a lap of 3:23.696, which he set in the third round of qualifying on Thursday. He will be joined by Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler.

The No. 3 Audi, driven by Marc Gene, completed the sweep of the top three positions for Audi. Stephane Sarrazin qualified fourth overall in a Toyota, nearly 4.5 seconds behind the leading Audi. The No. 7 Toyota, driven by Kaz Nakajima, completed the top-five overall and in class

Neel Jani was quickest of the three-car LMP1 Privateer class, earning the pole for Rebellion Racing.

OAK Racing’s Olivier Pla snatched the LMP2 pole just minutes before the checkered flag on the final session. Aston Martin Racing grabbed the top spots both GTE categories. Aston Martin will start first and second in GTR-Pro class with Frederic Makowiecki leading the way.
