U-Car Nationals Coming To Franklin County
CALLAWAY, Va. — Franklin County Speedway will host the U-Car Nationals on July 5.
While the U-Cars usually run in the shadows of the premier divisions, they will get the spotlight as one of the biggest U-Car fields of the season hits the high-banked three-eighths-mile track for a 65-lap special event offering $1,000 to the winner.
The U-Cars run under different names (pure 4’s, sport compacts, etc) and different sets of rules all over the country, but this race will set rules which allow all of them to compete.
“The U-Cars showed us last year that they had potential under the right circumstances to showcase the biggest fields of any division,” said track promoter Langley Austin. “This race will bring the cars from nearby and far away. Using weight to even up the cars based on the different sets of rules will allow cars to come from any track in the country and compete against some of the best here at Franklin County Speedway.”
Although the U-Cars fall under different sets of rules all around the region, Austin is confident that the track staff will be able to make the entire field competitive.
“We’re already looking around at other tracks rules within a few states both asphalt and dirt and seeing what adjustments we’ll have to make to make all of the cars competitive with each another,” said Austin. “This will be one of the biggest U-Car races in the country and I’m certain we can get one of the biggest fields of U-Cars ever assembled.”
