Starworks Confirms Rolex 24 PC Drivers
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Starworks Motorsport has confirmed its Prototype Challenge driver lineup for the Rolex 24 At Daytona Jan. 25-26 at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
The No. 7 Oreca-Chevrolet FML009 will be shared by Alex Popow, Martin Fuentes, Isaac Tutumlu, Pierre Kaffer and Kyle Marcelli, who is new to the Starworks team.
The drivers who turned the fastest PC lap during the Roar Before the 24 will remain the same in the Starworks No. 8 with Eric Lux, Mirco Schultis, Renger van der Zande and Sam Bird at the controls.
“I am so excited to get this season underway after what was the most painful off-season ever in my history in motorsport. I am looking forward to coming back with a new No. 7 lineup and I think that the No. 8 was one of the favorites after the Roar,” said Peter Baron, Starworks Motorsport team owner.
Marcelli makes his PC debut in Starworks No. 8.
“I am very happy to be joining Starworks Motorsport,” he said. “It means a lot to have been selected by Peter for the job and it’s an honor to join the list of the many talented and experienced racing drivers that have been a part of this organization over the years. Regardless of the category or series, Starworks has proven to always be a top competitor and I expect the same this year in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. I have been training hard throughout the short off-season and will be bringing my best efforts to the program. I can’t wait to get back into the race car in just a few weeks for the 24 Hours of Daytona.”
Kaffer rejoins Starworks this season.
“The year started very well for me at the Dubai 24 Hours and now I head to Daytona for the Rolex 24 to join a really great team of drivers at Starworks,” Kaffer said. “I know the PC car very well from last year when I drove it with Mirco and it will be great to be driving with Kyle instead of against him for this race. I am also looking forward to seeing all the guys at Starworks again and with a strong driver lineup in the No. 7 car, we definitely have a chance for the victory.”
