DODGE CITY, Kan. — Jeff Swindell picked off his first Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MavTV feature win of the year by winning Saturday night’s opening leg of the Inaugural Wicked City Shootout at Dodge City Raceway Park.

And, in the process of collecting his third career series win, Swindell also delivered Randy Washburn his first career ASCS National Tour victory as a car owner.

While Swindell took top ASCS National Tour honors, other winners on the night included Brendon Gemmill in IMCA Modified action, Bart Baker in United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified competition and Dusty Witthuhn in IMCA Stock Cars.

With Swindell gridding the 25-lap ASCS feature outside the second row, front row outside starter Joe Wood Jr. outgunned pole starter Dustin Morgan and paced the initial eight rounds before clipping an infield tire exiting turn four.

As Wood came to a stop, Swindell inherited the point with eighth-starter Brian Brown on his tailtank in second after working past Morgan for third one lap earlier. And, on the restart, Brown slid past Swindell into the lead only to have the savvy veteran shoe return the favor the next time around.

“I knew I was a sitting duck on that restart,” Swindell explained. “He slid me clean though, it was just good, hard racing and I was able to get him back the next time.”

Back into traffic by the midway point, Swindell kept Washburn’s RE Technologies/Pride Ag Resources/Just Joe’s Trucking No. 0 a half straightaway ahead as sixth-starter Logan Forler, who scored an NCRA win at DCRP just three weeks ago, worked his way into second.

With a pair of lapped cars between himself and Forler as one final caution flew with four laps to go, Swindell raced to the stripe unabated with Forler setting for runner-up honors in Harley Van Dyke’s No. 5h entry.

Brown claimed third, with Wayne Johnson battling into the fourth and final lock-in position to Sunday night’s Wicked City Shootout finale.

The finish:

Jeff Swindell, Logan Forler, Brian Brown, Wayne Johnson, Jason Johnson, Brady Bacon, Johnny Herrera, Dustin Morgan, Kaley Gharst, Kyle McCutcheon, Tony Bruce Jr., Brad Loyet, Seth Bergman, Jordan Weaver, Raymond Seemann, Brandon Hahn, Cody Baker, Steven Richardson, Josh Baughman, Joe Wood Jr., Zach Chappell, Gary Wright.
