Cabral Claims Boston Louie Memorial

SEEKONK, Mass. – Randy Cabral charged from 10th on the starting grid to win Wednesday’s Northeastern Midget Ass’n Boston Louie Memorial at Seekonk Speedway.

Paul Scally started on the pole for the 29-lap event and pulled away from the field at the initial start, catching lapped traffic by the 10th circuit. A caution flag on lap 17 for spin by NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour regular Doug Coby allowed the field to close the gap on Scally.

Scally held the lead on the restart while Cabral, who by now was up to third, began to look for a way around second-place Seth Carson. Cabral made the move for second on lap 20 and then turned his attention to catching Scally.

Cabral was all over Scaly for the lead when the second and final caution flag of the race waved on lap 25 when Bethany Stoehr spun in turn two. That set up a four-lap dash to the checkers.

The green flag waved and Cabral made his move, pulling ahead of Scally to take the lead out of turn two at the third-mile paved oval. Scally tried to stay with Cabral, but Cabral was just too much as he pulled away to victory.

Todd Bertrand and Avery Stoehr were both able to get around Scally in the closing laps to finish second and third respectively. Scally settled for fourth with Carlson finishing fifth.

The finish:

Randy Cabral, Todd Bertrand, Avery Stoehr, Paul Scally, Seth Carlson, Ken Johnson, Doug Cleveland, Ian Cumens, Jim Chambers, Bobby Santos, Bethany Stoehr, Matt O’Brien, Pete Pernesiglio, Russ Stoehr, Anthony Nocella, Doug Coby, Jeff Horn, Michael Barnes, Jim SantaMaria.
