Buy A Brick For Christmas
KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Sprint car fans have until Dec. 15 to donate $250 to the non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation in order to get their brick certificate back in the mail in time for Christmas.
Said program coordinator Lori DeMoss, “We need to have the brick certificates printed by Dec. 15, so that they can reach their destinations by Dec. 22. This is a great opportunity for loyal fans to permanently honor drivers, friends and family members and then to be able to present the certificates as Christmas presents. The actual bricks will be engraved by April 1, 2014, so that they will be in place for the start of the next Knoxville Raceway racing season.”
The “A Brick At A Time” fund-raising program was initiated by then executive director Tom Schmeh and administrative assistive Lori DeMoss back in 1989, with the help of the late Tom Edwards Sr.
The program has been a tremendous success in providing operational support for the membership-based, program-driven non-profit foundation over the past 21 years.
Executive Director Bob Baker started having bricks engraved on a fourth wall, on the now-completed second floor of the museum, to accommodate the most recent “A Brick At A Time” donations.
“The Lobby and Foyer walls are completely filled up, however we still have available bricks on the first floor memorial wall and the second floor elevator wall, overlooking the legendary half-mile dirt track,” said Baker. “While it sounds like Christmas is a long way off, it really isn’t. We have had a number of people tell us how much fun it was to see the looks on their loved ones’ faces when they received the certificates and realized that their names were going to be etched in brick forever at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.”
Those wishing to support the museum and have a brick engraved are encouraged to call Lori DeMoss at 1-800-874-4488 or stop in at the museum, which is open seven days a week.
