Thunder’s Gary Lee Dead At 63

INDIANAPOLIS — Gary Lee, who became synonymous with ESPN’s “Thursday Night Thunder” racing series of the 1980s and early ’90s, has died.

Lee was found dead in his home Monday after having suffered an apparent heart attack. Lee was 63 years old.

Lee teamed with former USAC racer Larry Rice to form the television team for the “Thursday Night Thunder” series that made drivers the likes of Jeff Gordon household names across America.

Lee also worked at Indianapolis’ WTTV-4 and for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Network during the 1990s.
