CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chris Bell will wheel a midget for Keith Kunz in the USAC Mopar National Midget Series this year.

Bell confirmed the news Thursday afternoon during a phone interview with National Speed Sport News. He said the arrangement came together after a successful outing at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals last weekend.

“This year I’m going to be driving the Keith Kunz Motorsports/Toyota Racing Development No. 71 on the USAC (midget) schedule,” Bell said. “It was actually Pete Willoughby, who is partners with Keith, he actually got ahold of me in mid-December about driving in the Chili Bowl. Things worked out very well in the Chili Bowl so they decided to hire me full-time for this year.”

Bell, an 18-year-old driver from Norman, Okla., said he hopes to also gain some seat time in a 410 sprint-car during the 2013 season. He said he has already had offers to race in 360 sprint cars, but would prefer a chance to gain experience in a 410 sprint car.

The Oklahoma native first jumped onto the national radar in 2011 when he won The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial micro sprint-car event in Marion, Ill., pocketing $10,000. He also nearly won the American Sprint Car Series-sanctioned Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Arkansas in 2012, finishing second to winner Paul McMahan.
