Gold Crown Finale Pushed To Sunday

PONTOON BEACH, Ill. — Rain has forced the postponement to Sunday of the $10,000-to-win final round of the fifth annual DuPont Gold Crown Midget Nationals at Tri-City Speedway.

The event co-sanctioned by the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series and the Honda National Dirt Midget Series, originally scheduled for Saturday, will resume with hot laps at 5:30 p.m.

Rico Abreu of Rutherford, Calif., won Thursday’s feature with Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind., second. Clauson finished first and Abreu second in Friday’s feature. They are locked into Sunday’s 40-lap feature on the three-eighths mile track based upon points scored in the opening two rounds of the Gold Crown.

Six more drivers are also assured of feature top-eight starting positions: Zach Daum, Chris Bell, Darren Hagen, Shane Cottle, Caleb Armstrong and Alex Bright. They’ll race in a dash to determine their grid spots.
