USAC .25 Midgets Make A Kalamazoo Stop
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The USAC Honda .25 Quarter-midget Series stopped at Kalamazoo, Mich. Aug. 16-17 for the Honda Midget Weekend Spectacular.
Kalamazoo is one of the series’ fastest tracks and is was the eighth stop of the nine-event tour for the national pavement title.
“The weekend was great for all the kids here at Kalamazoo,” said Shawn Parker of Nashville. “Saturday events went along very well and families got to go to the big track to watch the USAC/Stars Midget and HPD Midgets race.”
Sunday main events were delayed because of rain, but Mother Nature opened a window and the races were on. Carson Hocevar of Portage, Mich. continued his quest for multiple championships by winning 3 events (Hvy Honda, Hvy 160 and Hvy ‘AA) this weekend. Austin Nigh of Greenfield, Ind. also tripled up winning Sr Honda, Sr Animal and Lt World Formula. Other winners for the weekend were Caden Hoyt of Homer, Mich. (Lt Mod), Tanner Reif of Henderson, Nev. (Briggs Jr Animal), Neil Allison of Greensboro, N.C. (Honda Lt 160), Hayden Sprague of Howell, Mich. (Unrestricted Animal), Berklee Jimenez of San Antonio, Texas (Hvy World Formula), Brady Johnson of Mooresville, N.C. (Jr Honda) and Zeb Wise of Angola, Ind. (Lt ‘AA).
Austin Prock of Indiana, won Saturday’s Midget race and Austin Nemire of Ohio won the HPD Feature at the 3/8 mile Kalamazoo Speedway. Both of these drivers began racing in Quarter Midgets. Prock took the time to talk to the large crowd of young drivers as he celebrated in Victory Lane.
The USAC Honda Dirt Triple Crown Tour continues Aug. 22-24 in Hagerstown, Md.
