Western Midgets Head To Petaluma

INDIANAPOLIS – Petaluma (Calif.) Raceway hosts the Honda USAC Western Midget Series Saturday night and point leader Ronnie Gardner will try to protect a 23-point lead in the standings.

The event is co-sanctioned by BCRA.

Shane Golobic, who won the last USAC Western Midget Series race on dirt at Placerville, also won last year’s race at Petaluma.

Nick Chivello passed Scott Pierovich on the 28th lap Saturday night and led the final three laps to win the 30-lap Pombo/Sargent Classic USAC/BCRA Honda Western Midget race at Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

Chivello led the first 21 laps and Pierovich the next six before the final pass. Tanner Swanson finished second ahead of Chad Nichols, Scott Pierovich and David Goodwill. Chivello piloted the Hubbard’s Auto Parts/Red Top Electric Spike/Esslinger.

The Honda USAC Western Midget Series returns to pavement racing on July 13 at Madera Speedway.
