KNOXVILLE LIVE: Brian Brown Wins
KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Welcome to the second night of the 53rd annual FVP Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.
11:04: Brian Brown romps from seventh to second on the opening lap and goes on to win the feature on the second night of the Knoxville Nationals.
Kerry Madsen finished second with Kevin Swindell third. A full results story will be posted soon.
10:45 p.m.: The feature field is pushing off now.
10:34 p.m.: Danny Lasoski wins the B main with Cody Darrah, Rico Abreu and Dusty Zomer transferring to the feature.
9:58 p.m.: Bronson Maeschen won the C main with Tony Bruce Jr., Bill Rose and Kaley Gharst also transferring.
9:49: Shooting t-shirts into the stands is the order of the moment at Knoxville Raceway. The C main is lining up.
9:31 p.m.: Robby Wolfgang won the fourth heat with Jon Agan, Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Roger Crockett also transferring. Danny Lasoski finished fifth and will have to run the B main.
9:25 p.m.: Terry McCarl won the fourth heat race. Transfer spots went to Brian Brown, Scott Winters and Brad Loyet.
9:20 p.m.: Stevie Smith won the third heat race with Steve Kinser romping from eighth to finish second. Bill Balog and Kevin Swindell also earned transfer spots.
9:15 p.m.: Yellow flag with four laps to go in heat three. Steve Kinser and Stevie Smith have been staging a wild battle for second while running down leader Bill Balog.
9:09 p.m.: Wayne Johnson won the second heat. Second through fourth were Kerry Madsen, Jac Haudenschild and Brian Paulus.
9 p.m.: Rico Abreu and No. 2 qualifier Bronson Maeschen tangled entering the first turn on the second lap of heat two with both cars sliding into the outside wall.
8:56: Jack Dover wins the first heat race of the night with Mark Dobmeier, Craig Dollansky and Joey Saldana, who battled back from a flat tire on the second lap, also transferring.
8:51 p.m.: Fast qualifier Joey Saldana stopped on the track on the second lap of the opening heat race with a flat left-rear tire.
8:26 p.m.: Joey Saldana was the fast qualifier tonight with a best lap of 15.387 seconds.
Second through fifth were Bronson Maeschen, Steve Kinser, Bill Rose and Danny Lasoski.
7:47: Roger Crockett just rolled onto the track as tonight’s first qualifier.
7:42: All hot laps sessions are complete. Sam Hafertepe Jr. was quickest with a 15.292- second lap. Bryan Clauson’s No. 21x broke a rear end during hot laps.
-Sheldon Haudenschild does not expect his team will get his car repaired in time to participate in tonight’s event.
-Robert Bell, who was the recipient of four new tires and a new Butlerbuilt seat, burned a piston during hot laps.
7:26 p.m.:The second group of hot laps ends with Sheldon Haudenschild spun to a stop in turn three after contact with Jarrod Schneiderman. Steve Kinser was the quickest of the session with a lap of 15.424 seconds.
7:20 p.m.: The first hot laps session of the night is in the books. Roger Crockett turned a quick lap of 16.895 seconds.
7:16 p.m.: Cars are on the race track finishing running in the track and hot laps should begin shortly.
Fifty-three cars are in the pits for the second night of qualifying for Saturday’s $150,000-to-win 50-lap feature.
Robert Bell will be the first qualifier later tonight Joey Saldana hits the track sixth with Kevin Swindell seventh and Danny Lasoski ninth. 2010 Nationals winner Tim Shaffer runs 11th with Steve Kinser 19th, Jac Haudenschild 25th, Stevie Smith 32nd, Brian Brown 34th, Craig Dollansky 36th and Kerry Madsen 49th.
-USAC National Drivers champion Bryan Clauson is making his Knoxville Nationals debut tonight, making a rare start in a winged sprint car, driving the Pollack No. 21.
-Veteran crew chief Guy Forbrook is working with Knoxville Raceway regular Mark Dobmeier, who has won three times at the half-mile track this year.
-Midget and sprint car veteran Brad Loyet is also making his Nationals debut this evening, though, he has been a multi-time starter in the 360 Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.
-Four-time Nationals winner Danny Lasoski elected to drive his own No. 33 sprint car here this week.
-Two-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Jason Meyers is a spectator here this evening.
-Push trucks continue to run in the race track and it appears we are on track for hot laps at approximately 7:15 p.m.
