ARCA Confirms Elko Return Date
TOLEDO, Ohio – The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will make a return trip to Elko (Minn.) Speedway in 2014.
It will be the third ARCA event at Elko, and second to be scheduled for 250 laps. The first ARCA race at Elko was a 200-lap, short-track thriller. Series officials increased the length of the race from 200 to 250 laps to give race fans more action.
“We have wanted to make Elko an annual stop on the ARCA schedule and having the national series back for a third time is great news,” said Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent. “Last year, the additional 50 laps made for better racing and gave the fans in our grandstands even more action on the race track.”
Brennan Poole captured the checkered flag in a lightning-quick 200-lap race in 2012. This past season, Frank Kimmel beat Tom Hessert to the finish line to win his 78th all-time ARCA Racing Series event. Kimmel and Hessert were two of nine cars on the lead lap when the checkered flag flew at the paved, half-mile oval. Kenny Schrader, who retired from NASCAR events this past weekend but still intends to race in other series, sat on the pole for the Elko race this past June and led 75 of the first 118 laps.
The 2014 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule is taking shape. Fourteen events have now been announced. Elko is the third different short track on the schedule so far. ARCA will be at Salem Speedway twice in 2014 and Toledo Speedway once. More schedule news will be released throughout this week and next, series President Ron Drager said.
