ARCA Sets Madison Return Date

TOLEDO, Ohio – Sandwiched in between a couple of dirt track weekends, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will make the trek to Madison Int’l Speedway in 2014.

The half-mile bullring will host the ARCA Racing Series for the seventh time on Aug. 24, 2014. It’s the 16th event on the 2014 schedule announced by series officials. The world’s most versatile touring series will be at one-mile Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield the previous week and at Magic Mile of DuQuoin State Fairgrounds the week after.

The ARCA Racing Series stretches out over five decades at Madison Int’l Speedway, having first raced there in July of 1970 – two-time ARCA champion Ramo Stott earned the victory. Tom Bowsher won the ARCA race at Madison in May of 1971, and Bruce Gould is in the history books at the 1973 ARCA victor. However, nearly 40 years would elapse before the ARCA Racing Series would return to Madison in 2011.

In 2011, Alex Bowman and Chris Buescher battled or the win with Bowman coming out on top. In 2012, Buescher won the race on his run to the ARCA Racing Series championship.

Last year, history was made at Madison when 15-year-old Kyle Benjamin won the race in dominating fashion, leading the final 131 laps to become the youngest winner in series history. The race also marked the ARCA debuts of Wisconsin native Ross Kenseth and Travis Sauter. Kenseth scored a top ten finish in a race that was broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
