Busch Bests Nemechek In Short Track Thriller
CLERMONT, Ind. – Kyle Busch revved up the crowd Friday, passing John Hunter Nemechek on the final turn of the final lap to win the ARCA/CRA Super Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Busch led briefly early in the race, then followed Nemechek for most of the race. He was right on his bumper for about 20 laps before overtaking him at the end, winning the Circle City 100 presented by JEGS.com.
“I timed it right,” Busch said. “This was a lot of fun.”
Chad Finley finished third, Alec Carll fourth and Travis Braden fifth.
Nemechek, the son of NASCAR veteran Joe Nemechek, said it was a tough race to lose.
“It sucks to lose it when I led so many laps, but if I had to lose it to someone, I guess that’s the guy you want to lose to,” Nemechek said.
Busch drove it hard into the final turn and just had enough of a run to get under the youngster. After that, it was a drag race to the finish line, with Busch beating him by 0.024 seconds.
The race took just under 50 minutes to complete at the .686-mile track.
Braden, a former ARCA Racing Series Road to Daytona test winner, had a close view of those final laps.
“It was fun to watch those guys there for the last laps,” Braden said. “That was fun.”
