Finally! Mitchell Scores First ARCA Win
JOLIET, Ill. – Mason Mitchell figured that after six second-place finishes, his first ARCA Racing Series win would eventually come.
Mitchell made it happen on Saturday. He overtook Justin Boston in the closing stages of the Ansell ActivArmr 150 at Chicagoland Speedway, then sped to the checkered flag for his first victory in his 35th career ARCA start.
“I can’t put it into words, we worked so hard for this, we finished second so many times,” an out of breath Mitchell said in Victory Lane.
“There are so many things that have happened, I wanted to wait to make sure we got it done. I’m just so happy for this team. It never gave up. It’s the proudest day of my life.”
Boston said Mitchell drove a perfect final 10 laps.
“I’ve got to hand it to him, he drove a heck of a 10 laps,” Boston said. “Our car got a little bit tight at the end of the race, and that was the difference to why we’re not (in Victory Lane).”
Rookie Matt Tifft was third, Will Kimmel finished fourth, and Cody Coughlin completed the top five. Spencer Gallagher, who led a race-high 70 laps, was sixth.
Polesitter John Wes Townley blew a right-front tire early in the race and finished 22nd in the 26-car field.
Mitchell’s win moved him into the series points lead for the first time. He has a 25-point lead over Grant Enfinger and a 250-point lead over third-place Frank Kimmel.
