Kimmel Clinches Bill France 4 Crown

SALEM, Ind. – Frank Kimmel has another shiny plaque for his house.

By finishing third in Saturday’s ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at The Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery, Kimmel captured the prestigious Bill France 4 Crown Championship.

“I’ve always put that pretty high on the list. First of all the namesake of the thing, Bill France, that’s a big deal and pretty awesome he’s part of that thing,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel, who extended his series point lead with two races remaining in his quest for his 10th series title, has now won six Bill France 4 Crown championships.

The Bill France 4 Crown is a mini-series within the ARCA season that challenges drivers on four different types of courses. This season’s 4-Crown race schedule included Michigan Int’l Speedway (superspeedway), New Jersey Motorsports Park (road course), Springfield (mile dirt oval) and Salem (short track).

“It’s such a diverse set of tracks,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel entered the race hoping to win his 80th all-time ARCA race, but came up short on a track where he’s won nine times. Still, he was presented a plaque in victory lane for the Bill France 4 Crown award.

Four Crown points are allocated without qualifying or in-race bonuses, and distributed in the same method as in the official series standings. Kimmel entered the race 15 points ahead of Venturini Motorsports driver Justin Boston. The No. 25 ZLOOP Computer & Recycling Toyota won the pole and led 19 of the first 32 laps before transmission problems ended his day early.

“Justin Boston would have been hard to beat tonight,” said Kimmel. “I know he broke something early. His car was really fast. What a great competitor he is. I really enjoy racing with him. He would have been tough. We ended up with a third and that’s what we had to do.”
