McIntosh Closing In On ARCA Debut
TOLEDO, Ohio – For Shannon McIntosh, there’s nothing quite like a good old-fashioned ARCA short-track rock ‘em, sock ‘em birthday bash at Indiana’s Lucas Oil Raceway.
McIntosh, who turns 25 the day before the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care at LOR, will celebrate the occasion trading paint with the stars and cars of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Friday night, July 25, marking her series debut.
Her ARCA opportunity will come aboard one of three Cunningham Motorsports Dodges entered for the big show.
“This is a huge opportunity. To have Kerry Scherer and Briggs Cunningham (Cunningham Motorsports co-owners) believe in me enough to provide this opportunity. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am,” McIntosh said. “That’s number one.
“Secondly, this is a fulltime thing for me. I’m all in; this is everything to me. I’ve been working fulltime on the marketing and sponsorship side of things to keep my career on track. I do all of it myself, so I’m constantly on the phone and emailing trying to make things happen. We have some exciting news we’re going to be sharing, so this is all good.. When I got the call from Kerry, I was so surprised.”
McIntosh, originally from Miamisburg, Ohio, now makes her home in St. Petersburg, Fla.; however, she’d like to relocate closer to the action.
“I really want to get back to Charlotte (N.C.) to be in that atmosphere, around all the people who know and understand racing.
“In the meantime, I’ve got my full focus on my ARCA debut at Lucas Oil Raceway. I’ve been in the gym training every day, working on marketing and sponsorship with my full focus on ARCA.”
Outside of her one-race shot with Cunningham Motorsports, she’s doing all she can to run ARCA full-time in 2015.
“Right now, I want to get in as many races as I can, but we all know that plans can fall apart, so you have to keep working hard to make it happen. I’d love to get a full (ARCA) season in next year. My goal is to get to NASCAR, but I also know that’s a step-by-step process. I just need to keep moving up through the ranks.”
