McIntosh Joins Cunningham ARCA Program

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kerry Scherer, co-owner of Cunningham Motorsports, has announced that Shannon McIntosh has signed to compete in the ARCA Racing Series.

McIntosh began her ARCA career this weekend during the annual ARCA winter test at Daytona Int’l Speedway. Her first race with Cunningham Motorsports will be April 27 when the ARCA Racing Series cars invade Salem (Ind.) Speedway for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. Plans for the 2014 season include between six and seven races and various test sessions, with sponsorship being announced in the coming weeks.

“We’ve been trying to get Shannon to race with us for years,” Scherer said. “She tested with us recently and impressed everyone at Cunningham. I am extremely pleased that Shannon is finally with us. She is a remarkable young lady on and off the track.”

The 24-year-old native of Ohio cut her teeth in racing quarter midgets, beginning at the age of 5 at Kil Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio. The three-eighths-mile speedway was a staple for the ARCA Racing Series in the early 1990s. After competing six years quarter midgets, McIntosh moved on to micro sprints, followed by a USAC Ford Focus midget. She continued her route to the ARCA Racing Series through USAC midgets with Bob East Racing, the US 2000 National Championship Series with Wayne Taylor Racing and most recently, in 2012, with Pabst Racing Services.

In 2007, McIntosh began the pursuit of her marketing degree at the University of North Carolina while working at the Richard Petty Driving Experience. The past two years have put McIntosh’s education to the real test as she has been searching for sponsorship.

“I couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity with Cunningham Motorsports,” McIntosh said. “For as long as I can remember I have wanted to pursue a career in NASCAR and this year is an opportunity for me to continue pursuing that route. After a great test (in November) at Motor Mile Speedway with Cunningham Motorsports, I felt right at home, both in the car and with the team. I am really looking forward to developing my stock car skills this year with one of the best teams in the series and honored that I am able to work with such a recognized and talented team.

“Although I developed a great deal of experience in the last couple of years road racing in the USF2000 series, the bulk of my experience is on short track ovals and my ultimate goal has always been NASCAR. I am thrilled to be back in an oval-focused series and really looking forward to learning a lot this year and producing great results,” McIntosh said.
