ASA Tracks Spreading Holiday Cheer

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Three ASA Member Tracks took a break from their racing schedule or planning their 2013 season to give something back to their local communities.

Havasu 95 Speedway, Norway Speedway and Skagit Speedway recently made food and toy donations to local community organizations.

Havasu 95 Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., started a tradition a few years ago of getting as many new bicycles as they can for the Marine Corp Toys for Tots program. Bill Rohzon, track promoter, has a simple goal each year, to donate at least one more bike than what they donated the previous year.

Last year, Havasu 95 Speedway donated 111 bicycles and tricycles to Toys for Tots. This year, they donated 112.

“We are excited to know that so many kids will see a new bicycle or tricycle waiting for them on Christmas morning,” Rohzon said. “It’s incredible to see how this grows every year for us. Our race teams and fans all get involved in giving something like this back to the community. The West Coast Vintage Racers donated $1,000 this year and one race team donated ten new bicycles. This gets bigger and better every year. We are already looking forward to doing this again next year.”

Paul Martin led the effort at Norway Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Norway, MI, with their annual toy/food drive. “We had three drop off points this year. The track, Dairy Queen of Kingsford, and Toby & Kris Kelly’s CARQUEST location,” Martin said. “The total toy donation filled both the front and back seats of my truck to the ceiling.”

Their donations went to the Caring House in Iron Mountain and the Iron Mountain chapter of the Salvation Army. The Caring House supports misplaced families and abused children and spouses. Both received food items, personal items and toys for the holiday season.

Steve Beitler along with his staff and champions at Skagit Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Algers, Wash., went on a shopping spree this week for their annual food drive.

“We really enjoy doing our food Drive,” Beitler said. “Times are tough right now for a lot of good people, it is an honor to be able to give back to our community. Everyone deserves a warm meal over the holidays; it is our way of saying thank you to the people that support us every season.”

Skagit Speedway partnered with the Les Schwab Tire Stores in providing hundreds of warm meals this season.

“We are very grateful to have a family of ASA Member Tracks that give back to their communites all year round, especially during the holidays,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said. “We commend all of our tracks on giving up their time to make the holidays more special for those who need it. We wish everyone a blessed holiday season.”
