Rumley & Slone Grab ASA Track Titles

Dustin Rumley

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Dustin Rumley and Mike Slone won their respective track championships this past weekend.

Kyle Borden leads the ASA Modified standings towards their final events for the season. All three are now eligible for the ASA Member Track National Championship.

The 2012 National Champion will be announced within the next few weeks.

Dustin Rumley became a two-time Late Model Champion at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C. Rumley won the championship by 38 points over Rodney Cook in the final track standings. Defending ASA Member Track National Champion Barry Beggarly finished third in the track standings, 44 points behind Rumley.

The 22-year-old driver from McLeansville, N.C., won the late model championship in 2010. That year, he finished second to Bryan Wordelman from Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah, for the national title. He was only 0.0028 behind Wordelman’s national average.

In 15 events, he had five feature wins, 12 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.

Mike Slone held off 16-year-old rookie Matt Wallace to win the ASA Late Model championship at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Mo. Slone was at the top of the leaderboard through the entire season after winning their opening night feature back in May. Even a tough month of July, where he had three finishes outside of the top-10, didn’t slow down his championship run.

He had four feature wins, 11 top-five and 14 top-ten finishes in 17 starts this season at the three-eighths-mile asphalt oval.

Kyle Borden still has two events on the 2012 schedule at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, Calif. Those events will be after the deadline for the 2012 National Championship deadline date of Sept. 30. He still leads the ASA Modified standings over Micah Palmer.

Since Borden was leading the standings by the deadline, he will be the representative from Shasta Speedway for the ASA Member Track National Championship.
