This Bud’s For Sontag At Rockford
LOVES PARK, Ill. — Brett Sontag put his name in the record books along with those of Joe Shear, Dick Trickle, Steve Carlson and Mark Martin as the veteran captured the 45th annual National Short Track Championships Budweiser 200 super-late-model event at Rockford Speedway Sunday afternoon.
Sontag seemed in command of the race after taking the lead from Jerry Gille on lap 22 until Eddie Hoffman, coming from a lap down early in the race, closed in to challenge at the finish. Hoffman came up short and finished second
“I got some heat in the tires and we just took off,” Sontag said. “This thing (car) had good bite up off the corners and I have to thank my crew. They really helped me get this car in good shape this weekend.”
Finishing behind Sontag and Hoffman at the checkered flag was Josh Nelms, but he was later disqualified following post-race inspection. Chris Weinkauf, Ryan Carlson and Steve Dobbratz completed the top five.
